With the passage of Proposal 3 in the November 2018 General Election, registered voters can now request an Absentee Ballot without providing a reason. Under Michigan election law, you are also eligible to be placed on the Permanent Absent Voter List.
If you would like to receive an Absent Voter Ballot, send a request with your name and address to info@westbranchtownship.net. You will be sent an Absent Voter Application. You may also fill out an Absent Voter Application through this document: Absent Voter Application and send it to the Clerk by mail (PO Box 56 Skandia, MI 49885) or email. Remember, you must complete an application before we are able to mail your ballot.
To be included on the Permanent Absent Voter’s List, simply mark the box on the Absent Ballot Application. This will enable the Clerk to mail you an application for an Absent Voter’s Ballot before each election.
Benefits of being on the Permanent Absent Voter List:
- You will automatically receive an Absent Voter Ballot Application for every election.
- If you choose to return the application, you will be sent a ballot.
Another change brought about by the passage of Proposal 3 is Automatic Voter Registration. The Secretary of State will automatically register all qualified voters who submit applications or changes of address applications for driver’s licenses or state personal ID cards (or enhanced versions of those forms of ID), as long as the person does not opt out of registration.
